Bethany’s Thanksgiving Playlist 2019

The grass is always greener.

The grass is always greener on the other side.

The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.

The grass is always greener where you water it. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side. Sometimes the grass looks greener because it’s fake. The grass may be greener on the other side of the fence but you still have to mow it.

This year, as a family, we vacillated between believing that the grass was greener where we previously were and hoping that the grass will be green again someday. This was a wearisome space for someone who tends to manage life only by living in the present moment. These moments have been isolating and debilitating, heart breaking and soul crushing. And, these moments have been connected and inspiring, life giving and hope filled.

Memories of this year, though bittersweet, provoke gratitude within me. Regardless of the year we’ve experienced, thanksgiving can always be found. Always.

This is the sixth year with Red Tent Living that I have created a playlist for Thanksgiving. Every year, I collect songs throughout the year that stir my heart. Music has a lovely way of putting in words that which our heart feels, especially when the words are hard to find. The invitation stands as I invite each of you to enjoy this playlist. My hope is that you will make space to just be as you enter this upcoming season. Maybe you’ll create your own personal list of gratitude in words or song that reflects your heart and story this Thanksgiving.

Today, I am especially thankful for friends who remind me that no matter the state of my grass, I can rest.

Be still and know that I am God.

Be still and know that I am.

Be still and know.

Be still.

Be.

Bethany Cabell, a lover of simplicity, is often inspired to write by the relationships she holds as a wife, mom, and a physical therapist. Bethany, her husband and their boys returned to life in Texas after wandering off to the Midwest for a season. What she once pictured her life to look like has forever been changed by her two sons. Navigating this messy and beautiful path of parenting two children each with their own unique challenges, she finds grace and beauty in the gift of each moment.
