I’ve been thinking about what I’m thankful for and the blessings in my life. I usually write about my boys but I wanted to focus on something different this time…my daughters from another mother (aka my daughters in law).
It was about 9 years ago that my first daughter in law stole my oldest son from me! Oh, I mean stole his heart…that moment when you know you are not the number one woman in your son’s heart. And so it began… One year later another girl came in and stole my youngest son’s heart.
Once I worked through the fact that I didn’t hold the same place in their hearts as when they were younger, I saw all the goodness of having girls around. My experience In a house full of males was that conversation was limited. They just don’t use as many words as females do! But with the girls there are always plenty of words…and I love it.
I am so grateful that my daughters from another mother have embraced me as a second mom. I get to experience “doing the girl stuff” like wedding dress shopping, pedicures and long talks about nothing and everything all at the same time.
I really loved raising boys and wouldn’t trade it for anything, AND the girls have filled a part of my heart that longed to share the mother daughter relationship.
I thought I was losing my boys but I didn’t lose them, I gained so much more. I’m grateful for my daughters from another mother on this journey with my three sons.
