I let my father name me
He didn’t have the rite
He didn’t know the truth
All he knew was fright
My needs were a painful reminder
Of all he didn’t do
to shame them, and bury them underground
was all that he knew
I believed him
& sunk down with my dreams
Like mercury…descending to the depths of the sea
I had a hope…
A hint of truth…
But the burden wouldn’t let me be free
For years I held the weight of death
The curse, “you are too much!”
I shrunk and hid
Shriveled and died
A slow and painful death
But on my Father’s death bed
He spoke again a name for me to bear
He said, “You are delightful!” as he smiled and looked at me
With that truth, I ran
Renamed
Anointed
Given Life
From the throws of hell
The truest truth
Hangs in the air
Fragrance of Love and Life
The curse is broken
I am free to SOAR
Though the burden nips at my heals, I arise
Sin entangles
Fear bears down
Confusion reaches for my soul
War ensues
Tortured & bound
Caught between what is known and not
I cling to HOPE
Pray for peace
Invite the power of God
Emerging slowly from the fog
Inching ever slowly to life and joy
In between place where change takes place
Held in God’s chrysalis
Allowing transformation
Patiently awaiting
Perfect plan unfolding
Finally free to fly
Delight!
“The nations will see your vindication, & all kings your glory; you will be called by a new name that the mouth of the Lord will bestow…You will be called Hephzibah (My delight is in her)… for the Lord will take delight in you…” Isaiah 6
